14-06-2008 - Conclusive proof that too many years in rescue drives you mental! Yes ive gone mad!
and im taking others to the edge of insanity with me!
Well as founder of Greyhound Gap im always eternally greatful to people who find new and inventive ways to raise funds. This year we have Mont Blanc, jumping out of planes etc etc by some wonderful people.
Sometimes I feel useless as I dont have many talents OR skills and certainly NOT bravery points but decided it was about time I undertook a mad cap sponsored event myself. Sooooo here it is....
On Saturday July 5th 2008 I am spending the night in the reputedly extremly haunted Derby Gaol owned by Most Haunteds own historian Richard Felix. The Gaol itself has also featured on Most Haunted. Im not going alone and a group of 25 of us have paid £45 of our own money for the pleasure and in the hope that we can secure plenty of sponsorship money because there is alot of us who are terrified by the thought. It may sound easy enough but there was definatly more people not willing to go than willing to go.
Now one of my own personal major fears is enclosed spaces, especially strange enclosed spaces and the dark, so called haunted enclosed spaces and the dark MAY push me over the edge. I get severe claustrophobia and have suffered in the past from both panic & anxiety attacks aswell as beinga asthmatic.
STILL... I feel I owe it to the rescue to finally push my own personal boundaries and IF we raise what I deem is a serious amount of money for the dogs through general sponsorship im willing to consider spending sometime locked in a specific area known as the condemned mans cell. This is the area that prisoners were kept the night before execution. YES I have seen the episode of Most Haunted and when they tried to place Yvette Fielding in this area alone she left crying because of feelings of breathlessness, huge anxiety and horror.
Im willing to go in for 5 minutes at first with some other nutter willing to accompany me and if after a few minutes adjustment I feel comfortable enough may ask them to leave and try a few minutes alone.
I really cannot stress just how much of a personal challenge this will be.
Ive set the Just Giving amount total to a general sponsorship we hope to raise at £500 IF we go above that then either with someone just inside or just outside I will stay true to my word. Or I may just quit as founder and emigrate to Australia lol. 
I cannot stress enough how much this is my own personal worst nightmare but feel that others push themselves to the brink on behalf of Gap and the dogs and now its my turn.
