Womble.... what can I say? Do not ask me what cross she is as after 25 years in lurcher rescue I can only surmise part Greyhound, part Saluki, part Wheaton, maybe a little Beardie and a huge part explosion in a mattress factory! I love her but she will need a home willing to deal with a fluffy coat that becomes candy floss when wet.

Womble landed into our care 6 weeks ago having been an unclaimed stray with a nasty fracture to her front leg. The leg has been expertly fixed by our wonderful Alan Mayo at Nantwich Veterinary surgery and she has healed remarkably well. However, any new family would need to live close enough to us in Staffordshire to travel to Nantwich should any issues arise in the future as we will remain responsible for any further costs relating to it surgically down the line should she need it. Priority for rehoming Womble with be given as close to possible to our permanent base and main area of operations.

Womble is currently on foster in the kennels house and is currently coming to the end of her 6 weeks fully crated period. She now accepts her crate willingly if not around but does yell to be allowed out if you are in the room. We feel moving forward she will be fine crate trained should you need to leave her.

Womble is great with dogs both big and small but will attempt to chase and run down my Dachshund cross if she sees her running. That has not been the best fun when she is meant to be resting and decides she would like to swing off the lead so currently she is given toilet breaks on her own. We do feel a home with other dogs would absolutely be necessary and will not rehome her as an only dog, as she really does enjoy their company and given the chance would like to play.

She needs a young energetic male companion who likes to play lurcher games as she does like to rough and tumble. She is a young sighthound and will act accordingly.

With an experienced sighthound owner and VERY dog savvy cats who have lived through sighthound introductions she is cat workable. She would need someone though who understands the difference between sighthounds not necessarily being fully *cat safe* at all times and separation would be needed when left.

Womble travels well and can be rehomed with dog savvy children 6 years and upwards.

Housetraining wise Womble is now getting there. She does still have an occasional accident in her crate overnight but this is understandable as a young dog, long term crated currently through recovery.

Any new home needs to understand that after this first 6 weeks Womble will need steady and slow building up to on lead walks once again. She must be kept on lead for another 3 months even in the garden to ensure maximum healing and may never be suitable for off lead running in other areas. To be fair her extreme selective deafness rules that out too.

Womble is a very loyal dog. She tends to bond to one family member more than the other so caution would be needed to ensure all members of the family were involved in her day to day routine to stop that co dependency being created.

All in all this wonderful girl who has had potentially the worst start in life is making somewhat of a magical little dog. Her journey is only just beginning and she has so much potential and will make a family very happy. We just hope having broken her leg it wont put people off as her recovery will be full.

Womble is vaccinated, kc vaccinated, de flead, de wormed, chipped, spayed, has had her teeth checked and will come with 4 weeks free insurance from Petplan.

Anybody interested in offering Womble a home will need to complete the pre adoption questionnaire below in the first instance. You must be willing to visit the kennels with all immediate members of the family and any current resident dogs.
